ZENcast is Creative’s take on the podcasting saga
Creative launched ZENcast which is actually two things, a site and an application. As a site, ZENcast is a directory of podcasts/vidcasts, similar to Yahoo! Podcasts. As an app, the ZENcast Organizer (requirements: Windows XP or Media Center, plus Internet Explorer) manages the transferring of podcasts/vidcasts to the user’s device (for now, it’s compatible with the Zen Vision and Zen Vision:M models only). Users aren’t restricted to content available on the ZENcast website—they can subscribe to any feed they like.
The effort got slammed as yet another cloning of Apple’s podcasting initiatives (and OK, Creative’s definition of a podcast didn’t help things [via]) but it’s time to give Creative’s guys a break I think. I’m pleased to see Creative throwing weight to the other side of the equation, which refers to content and software.
