Pandora launches free version
Pandora, an amazing, out-of-this-world music discovery service now has a free version available.
As explained in their FAQ: “Pandora is available in two forms. Both versions have exactly the same features. The first form is an advertising-supported version which is entirely free. Over time we’ll be incorporating ads into this version of Pandora.” (The other one is their regular ad-free version which goes for either $36/year, or $12/3 months.)
We’re a big fan of Pandora (check out our previous coverage for more details on how it works) and we’re thrilled with this announcement. But we don’t know if the current infrastracture can handle the freeloaders’ burden—quite a few errors when we tested it a couple of days ago; all of them rather trivial though. And we’ve got a feeling that the addition of a free version probably meant that they didn’t have lots of paying subscribers… Hopefully the recent changes will keep them afloat.
