Briefly: Buy/Burn/Return policy, Apple acknowledges Nano screen flaw, Invisible Shield on Nano howto, SanDisk’s TrustedFlash cards, Archos AV500 & Gmini-402 firmware
- Record store chain’s “Buy It, Burn It, Return It” policy (that’s an interesting one: at Scotti’s Record Shops in northern New Jersey, you can buy a CD, rip it/sample it/whatever and return it within 10 days to get a 70% store credit; of course, the RIAA has already knocked at their door, and our guess is that they’ll criple that policy in no-time) [via]
- Apple Does the Right Thing (company says the problem affects less than .1% of all Nanos; they’ve identified it as supplier’s quality control problem; if you’ve got problematic one—read: one with a cracked screen—, call AppleCare and they’ll replace it for free—finally, they came in to their senses; the flawedmusicplayer.com pulled down his website leaving a message that he achieved his goal; also read: BusinessWeek’s report and Macworld UK’s article) [via]
- How-to: applying the invisibleSHIELD to the iPod nano (you may need one, considering the Nano scratches way too easily; invisibleSHIELD product page, $19.95; according to a Gizmodo tipster though, it’s “likely based on a product from 3M called ScotchCal, which can be purchased online in large sheets and cut to one’s liking”, so you may wanna go that way)
- SanDisk introduces TrustedFlash memory cards at CTIA (they come with built-in DRM that essentially locks their content; translation: labels would be very happy to sell you their DRM-crippled tunes on such cards; also read Engadget’s take) [via]
- Archos firmware upgrades for AV500, Gmini-402
