In the spotlight: HOWTO: Move your iTunes music while preserving library data (when you don't let iTunes manage your music library)

Briefly: Jens of Sweden legal troubles, iTrip + PSP, Classical music tagging in iTunes, No-name taiwanese MP3 players cut prices, Music-playing cellphones disappoint, DOA iPod nanos

  • MP3 company rejects copyright charge (“Jens of Sweden [...] is facing legal proceedings for after flatly refusing to pay a controversial copying charge’ on its products.”; we’re not exactly sure we agree with the company’s stand that the compensation should be built into the price of the song though) [via]

  • This is what happens when an iTrip (FM transmitter for iPod) and a PSP get together. [via]

  • Tagging your classical music in iTunes (some nice suggestions from the iLounge guys, skip to the first question; the tagging issue is very dear to me—I hope I can find the time to write on it some day)

  • Taiwan market: iPod nano forces price cut of non-brand name flash MP3 players (in response to the iPod nano, “vendors of non-brand name flash-based MP3 players have reduced their retail prices by 10-20% for 512MB models and 20-35% for 1GB models in the Taiwan market”; also: “about 200 small and medium-size makers of MP3 players in Guangdong, China have been forced to close operations during the first half of this year due to tough competition [...] many of them were suppliers of non-brand name MP3 players for the Taiwan market”) [via]

  • Music-Playing Cellphones Hit a Flat Note (conclusion: all of them are mostly crap) [via]

  • Some iPod nanos DOA (“We’ve received a few reports of users taking delivery of out-of-the box non-functioning iPod nanos. This type of problem is typical for any large-scale manufacturing roll-out, though we are keeping a close watch for any potential trends.” ; DOA: Dead On Arrival—hey some people out there may be familiar with the acronym) [via]
