Samsung’s 16Gb flash chip
Samsung announced today the world’s highest density (16Gb—as in Gigabits) NAND flash memory chip; mass production will begin in the seoncd half of 2006. 32GB flash memory cards will be possible by combining 16 such chips. Gotta hand it to those guys for doubling the memory density of their chips for six years in a row; they’re the biggest producer of NAND (used in electronics) and DRAM (used in computers) memory chips in the world. The NAND market has increased 70% (from 2001 to 2005), and for the first time ever, NAND revenues are expected to exceed those of NOR flash this year. [via]
