Jobs interview on iPod nano
After he wowed the crowds with the Nano, he went ahead to call it a “bold gamble” in an interview following the presentation, according to a story on the Times. Just think that the more than half of the iPods sold until today were Minis; Apple withdraws the top-selling product, and replaces it with a device whose high complexity and uniqueness brings enormous risk. What if there were delays in the delivery of the product? The volumes of flash chips Apple needed from Samsung were certainly unprecedented (“Overnight we have become the largest consumer of flash memory in the world.”) and the miniature electronics powering the ultra-slim Nano certainly weren’t an easy task—“Entire factories were created to make this device,” according to Jobs.
