Briefly: Motorola ROKR campaign, iTunes shuffle algorithm, Japan’s rental CD shops, ‘Zen patent’ theories, Sony BMG-endorsed filesharing
- Madonna, Little Richard to star in Motorola ROKR campaign (along with tons of music stars—that’s quite a heavy campaign)
- How Much Does iTunes Like My Five-Star Songs? (Q: how random “Party Shuffle” really is? A: quite random) [via]
- Sony to set “Walkman Bean” against Apple as music download market sprouts (the rental CD shops which let consumers copy music for non-commercial, personal use may prevent explosive growth in Japan’s music download market)
- Creative’s ‘Zen patent’ = publicity stunt (tries to answer the question why Creative publicized this yesterday when it got the patent a month ago—we’re not sure we agree entirely with this opinion) [via]
- UK ISP signs deal with Sony BMG and indie labels allowing its users to share their music legally (the labels get a cut of the premium the users are paying to the ISP—novel concept, we’ll see how it works out) [via]
